Dear Fellow Tidewater Wolverines:

As the newly elected president of the U of M Alumni Association’s Tidewater Club, I want to introduce myself, offer a view of the club and offer some suggestions on getting involved.

MOTIVATION: For some, it's the pride from being a part of a highly vocal, partisan group at a football-watching event. For others, its the smiles on the faces of alumni enjoying a holiday party, or the beaming faces of proud parents and excited students about to head to Ann Arbor for their first semesters. For others, living so far from Main Street, it's just the connection with someone who shared an Ann Arbor experience regardless of the year or the school. Whatever the source of your motivation, there is a position on the board for you and a local event. Even if you can volunteer for just a single event, you may serve on a committee formed by a board chairperson. We're not formal. We ARE all inclusive. Come and connect.

The Tidewater U of M Club is your local connection to the University of Michigan, its Alumni, and Friends. This Web site has the latest information about our Club's activities.

EVENTS and ACTIVITIES: The Club plans social, cultural, and philanthropic events in Tidewater to bring Alumni and Friends together to preserve and promote the culture and diversity of the University of Michigan.

... You will find something to interest you. If you do not find anything, please let us know what you would like to do under our local MICHIGAN banner. This is YOUR Club, and your Board of Directors is eager to plan events that will entice your participation.

WHO WE ARE IN TIDEWATER;  We range from rabid football fanatics to opera aficionados and some of us are both. As Wolverines, we have a prominent Tidewater presence. We're in the Virginia Symphony, business leadership, physicians and dentists, the military, retirees, parents of students, Naval Architects, teachers, sports pros and fans, friends of alums, state of Michigan émigrés, and some who just like BLUE. We live on the Eastern Shore to the Outer Banks. So come meet our eclectic group, meet some of the other 1,200 Alumni in the area, meet old friends, make new ones, relive the good-old-days at Michigan, make a difference in the community, have fun, and as always GO BLUE!

WHO'S YOUR PRESIDENT: I am newly elected, but a long time Tidewater Club member and area resident. I did not graduate or attend the University of Michigan. However, I am a Wolverine through marriage and paternity: my wife Peggy, my daughter Cathleen, and my father-in-law Bill Collins are alumni as are countless other family members and friends. I am a Wolverine draftee and understand the culture. BLUE blood now flows through my veins and I know the consequences of rooting for or even thinking about any other college team. I am dedicated to doing whatever it takes to make our club -- OUR CLUB. Supporting activities and events that will appeal to all area BLUE folks. Ensuring that we have many venues: Williamsburg, Newport News, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and the Outer Banks or where you live.
